This CASA In-Service will give hands-on, practical tools for advocating for all children. Specifically

geared towards the importance of being an affirming CASA volunteer, this training will give

participants a better understanding of the rates of LGBTQ+ children in care, the dangers resulting

from non-acceptance and effectively communicating with children served. In-field scenarios will

be discussed in this workshop.

Objectives

  • Participants will have a better understanding of the rate LGBTQ+ children enter foster care.
  • Participants will learn general definitions as a starting block into LGBTQ culture.
  • Participants will be given tools to ensure their advocacy is respectful and affirming for all.

This training has been partially funded through a contract between Ohio CASA and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. Ohio CASA supports local CASA/GAL programs throughout Ohio with training, technical assistance, legislative support, and standards implementation so volunteers may advocate for abused, neglected, and dependent children in the court system.
