Event Details

Join the Friends of Athens CASA for the 8th Annual Superhero 5k!! To offer safe and accessible options to participate, we are planning a HYBRID event. We will host a socially-distanced in-person run on September 18th starting at the Richland Avenue Park. We will also still offer virtual participation and virtual participants are encouraged to complete their 5k anytime on Sept 17th, 18th or 19th and post photos to social media using the hashtag #AthensCASA5k.

Just like in the past, registered Superheroes will receive the best swag around --> Exclusive Superhero5k Cape, "Why I Run..." Bib and maybe even a surprise or two. Participants have a few options for receiving their race packets. You can opt to pick up your packet during an Athens Packet Pick Up day; receive your packet via US Mail for a small shipping fee; or decline your packet.

You can get in on the VIRTUAL fun by posting a picture documenting your 5k anytime between September 17 and September 19. You can run, walk, roll, peddle, paddle, roller skate or swim your 5k. Most of all, you still mark your support of the 100+ children in Athens County who rely on Athens CASA to protect their best interests. You must register before September 4th to receive a race packet. You can still register after that date, but you will not receive the race packet or swag.

The in-person event is  planned for September 18th at the Richland Avenue Park. Check in begins at 8am with limited activities and games for kids and the run begins at 9am. There will be CASA merchandise available for purchase. In the event that public health circumstances change and it is no longer safe to hold an in-person gathering, the event will revert to 100% virtual. No refunds will be issued.

This year's race is more important than ever as Athens CASA, along with many victim-serving organizations in Ohio, faces a 30% federal funding cut, in addition to the 30% cut in 2020. Please join the effort to support and protect our kids... and do it with friends!

Packet Pick Up

Registered participants will receive a race packet with an official Superhero 5k Cape, a write-on race bib and a story about a child you've helped. Participants have 4 options for packets:

• Pick up the packet during race-day check in from 8am to 8:45am on Sept 18
• Pick up the packet any Friday at Ohio University Credit Union's East State Street Branch.
• Receive the packet by mail (fee associated)
• Decline the packet
