About the event

Tammy Baumgartel LPCC, NMT Level One Certified Clinician, is the Director of Albany Counseling Services and The Map Forward Project. Tammy has a long track record of partnering with community organizations to provide innovative, experiential therapies to children and adolescents affected by developmental trauma and attachment-related issues. These approaches have included nature-based and equine-assisted work, sand-tray and play therapies, music, yoga, dance, healing touch massage, and other forms of movement.

Tammy is currently engaged in an initiative of Albany Counseling Services called The Map Forward: Neuroscience for Hopeful Futures based on the work of The Child Trauma Academy, Dr. Bruce Perry, and the Neuro-sequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT). This project, in partnership with regional organizations and funders, is bringing the assessment metric known as the “Brain Map” to some of the most at-risk youth in our area, assisting care and service providers in providing state-of-the-art trauma-focused interventions.

After attending this training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how professionals create and use the "Brain Map" to better serve children and families.
  • Assess if a child qualifies and can benefit from this unique service.
  • Interpret findings from this assessment tool.

This training has been partially funded through a contract between Ohio CASA and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. OHIO CASA supports local CASA/GAL programs throughout Ohio with training, technical assistance, legislative support, and standards implementation so volunteers may advocate for abused, neglected, and dependent children in the court system.
